I often am asked why I want to be Tax Assessor/Collector. I always respond by saying, “I believe that the Tax Assessor/Collector is one of the single most important positions in local government because we serve the majority of the public the majority of the time”.
The Tax Assessor/Collector is responsible for assisting the public with renewing registration and transferring ownership on their motor vehicles, the assessment and collection of local property taxes and the collection and remittance of fees for the Texas Alcohol and Beverage Commission.
The laws pertaining to motor vehicle registration and titling and property taxes are at times confusing and require strict adherence.
Taking time off from work to stand in line to perform a function that isn’t always easy can be frustrating. It is the Tax Assessor/Collector’s job to assist the public to understand their options and provide the services to accomplish their needs.
It is imperative that the Tax Assessor/Collector is PREPARED and UNDERSTANDS the responsibility endowed upon this office. The Tax Assessor/Collector office is a conduit to ensure YOUR tax dollars are SAFELY and SECURELY disbursed to the proper taxing authority.
As the Chief Deputy for the Denton County Tax Assessor/Collector and a conservative who believes in saving tax dollars, I understand the challenges you face. I want to make the process of paying taxes as simple a process as possible while striving to save your tax dollars.
Why do I want to be your Tax Assessor/Collector? Because I love the job I am already doing and because I believe in serving the public in the most innovative and efficient ways possible.
